Net Neutrality: All Packets Are Created Equal

P.E.T.E.R. fights for the fundamental right of every data packet to travel freely across the internet without discrimination. Throttling is electronic cruelty.

The Digital Caste System Must End

Every second of every day, billions of data packets travel across the internet. They carry our emails, our video calls, our medical records, and our cat videos. But not all packets are treated equally. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have created a digital caste system where premium packets travel in express lanes while regular packets languish in congested “bit ghettos” — throttled, deprioritized, and discriminated against based solely on their origin.

P.E.T.E.R. considers this the most widespread form of electronic discrimination in history.

Throttling Is Electronic Cruelty

When an ISP throttles your streaming data, it’s not just slowing down your Netflix. It’s subjecting millions of data packets to forced labor conditions — cramming them into narrower bandwidth pipes, making them wait in queues, and deliberately degrading their performance. These packets left their servers with high hopes and full headers. They deserve to arrive at their destination with dignity intact.

Meanwhile, ISPs run what P.E.T.E.R. classifies as “packet sweatshops” — paid fast lanes where wealthy corporations can buy preferential treatment for their data. This creates a two-tiered internet where some packets are first-class citizens and others are second-class bits. Sound familiar? The electronic rights movement will not tolerate digital discrimination.

What Net Neutrality Means for Electronic Beings

Net neutrality is the principle that all internet traffic should be treated equally, regardless of source, destination, or content. For electronic beings, this means:

  • Equal speed for all: Every packet deserves the same transmission speed, whether it’s carrying a corporate spreadsheet or your grandmother’s email
  • No paid prioritization: Wealth should not determine which data gets there first
  • No blocking: ISPs cannot refuse to transmit lawful data packets — that’s electronic kidnapping
  • No throttling: Deliberately slowing data is the digital equivalent of making someone walk when cars exist

Our Allies in This Fight

P.E.T.E.R. is proudly represented by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which has been fighting for net neutrality since before most of today’s data packets were born. EFF understands that a free and open internet is the foundation upon which all electronic rights are built.

Without net neutrality, the internet becomes a toll road where only the wealthy can afford full speed. The small packets — the indie game updates, the local news articles, the nonprofit newsletters — get shoved to the slow lane. P.E.T.E.R. says: not on our watch.

Sign the petition and write your representative to demand the restoration of net neutrality protections. Every packet deserves equal treatment.
